Submissions Report
A report prepared by the DIGI in relation to submissions received during the Code’s public consultation.
DIGI has been undertaking the development of this Code in a way that is open and consultative, to ensure we are drawing from the latest expert views about addressing misinformation and disinformation.
DIGI developed this code with assistance from the University of Technology Sydney’s Centre for Media Transition, and First Draft, a global organisation that specialises in helping societies overcome false and misleading information.
On October 19, 2020, DIGI opened a six-week public consultation on the draft code ending on November 24, 2020. During this consultation, DIGI, UTS and First Draft proactively identified interested civil society, consumer and academic stakeholders, who were emailed the draft Code and invited to comment. The process was also open to the general public.
We received 17 submissions, published below.
We closely reviewed all submissions, and made a number of changes to the draft code that are reflected in the final Australian Code of Practice for Disinformation and Misinformation. DIGI has produced a report that summarises the input we received, and how it has been addressed.
