Outcome of the review
The 2026 revised ACPDM builds on the Code’s flexible, opt-in framework, introducing a range of new commitments by signatories to combat dis- and misinformation and bolstering the Code’s transparency and governance requirements. Key updates introduce new commitments by signatories to support users’ ability to identify AI generated content and provide more details on these systems, ensure users have information about enforcement actions on their accounts, and support the work of the Australian Electoral Commission to ensure electoral integrity online. The governance of the Code has been improved with an Independent Advisory Committee. The Best Practice Guidelines for Transparency Reporting by signatories have also been updated, to introduce 32 common quantitative and qualitative data-points. These updates demonstrate signatories’ commitment to ensuring the ACPDM is responsive to the evolving challenges of dis- and misinformation online. The outcome of the review is available to read in the 2026 annual report, via the link below.

The ACPDM, a self-regulatory code developed by DIGI, has been adopted by major companies including Adobe, Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Redbubble, TikTok, and Twitch. The review of the Code was comprehensive, examining the scope of the ACPDM and potential improvements to the code’s governance and oversight.
