March 10, 2026, SYDNEY — The Digital Industry Group Inc. (DIGI), Australia’s peak digital industry
body, today welcomed the launch of the New Zealand Online Scams Code (NZOSC), as a significant
step toward a unified regional defense against scams.
Launched last night at NZ Parliament House in Wellington by Tech New Zealand, the NZOSC is
based on DIGI’s Australian Online Scams Code (AOSC). Signed by founding signatories Google,
Meta, and TikTok, the code introduces 38 concrete commitments to disrupt scam activity through
enhanced blocking, reporting, and intelligence sharing.
On the launch of the NZOSC, DIGI Managing Director Sunita Bose said: “Scammers operate without
borders, so industry defenses must be equally seamless. By adopting a framework aligned with the
Australian code, New Zealand is helping to create a trans-Tasman shield that makes the region a
harder target for criminal networks.”
“While the industry’s work to protect Australians from scams long pre-dates the Australian Online
Scams Code, we’ve seen signatories launch new AI-backed scams technology and ramp up support
for law enforcement efforts to disrupt criminal activity at the source.”
DIGI will continue to draw upon its expertise developing the Australian Online Scams Code to support
Australian Government efforts to introduce mandatory codes for the digital, banking and
telecommunications sectors by July 1, 2026 and looks forward to reviewing draft materials.

About the Australian Online Scams Code
On 26 July 2024, leading companies in the tech industry announced the launch of a proactive code
aimed at combating scam activity in Australia, developed by DIGI. The Australian Online Scams Code
(AOSC) offers a holistic response with 38 commitments grouped under 9 key themes, which span
blocking and takedown, advertiser verification measures and increased collaboration with Australia’s
National Anti-Scam Centre. The code established immediate consumer protections and a blueprint for
combatting scams in the digital industry in advance of the Government’s reform agenda under the
Scams Prevention Framework.
