Statement on appointment of Mr Paul Fletcher as Minister of Communications, Cybersafety and the Arts

“It’s great to see that cybersafety has been given elevated prominence in this portfolio, and Minister Fletcher has already done important groundwork in this area as Parliamentary Secretary — he is extremely well qualified to deliver the Government’s goals to make the Internet a safer place.

“With his extensive experience working in industry, he’s also well placed to get the balance right for Australia’s burgeoning technology sector.

“We believe the best regulation for the online world arises when industry, government and the community work closely together, and we’re looking forward to working with Mr Fletcher in his new capacity as Communications Minister.”
